Since I've only seen 2 of these movies, I don't know. What is the best war movie?
None of the above.Which of these would you rather be?
We didn't have such a thing when I was in high school. What did your careers program in school tell you that you should do as a job?
Probably because we're not that far apart age-wise. Your school experiences probably weren't that different from mine. What did your careers program in school tell you that you should do as a job?
I don't have a problem as long as the people involved were doing it of their own free will and had been advised ahead of time as to any possible adverse effects. I don't approve of using people in institutions for the mentally disabled as test subjects because they are unable in most cases to give informed consent and I also object to those in prison being involved. This being chiefly because there have been cases where prisoners were "volunteered" by the prison and were unwilling participants. I would also be opposed to the military using soldiers as experimental subjects because they are frequently not told of the adverse effects, nor the long-term effects of certain substances. A case in point was the use of military personnel years ago to experiment with substances such as LSD. Currently, there is talk of giving some soldiers in Iraq Ecstasy to alleviate battle related stress. This would also be on an experimental basis. What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
In the case of substances such as LSD, they probably didn't, but in the case of Ecstasy, there is already a lot of evidence of potential harmfulness. Some of the substances tested on humans have already been tested on lab animals and therefore, I think that the researchers already would have at least some knowledge of side effects, etc. What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
There has been talk about giving some soldiers in Iraq Ecstasy to alleviate battle related stress, but it concerns me that the soldiers who volunteer to try this are fully informed as to the dangers. The drug has been known to cause death. Some medical research studies are poorly done because there are only a small number of subjects. That was the case with some of the initial studies on the effects of trans fats on people. They only had around 100 people in the study and didn't factor in other factors such as whether some of the subjects smoked or engaged in other risky habits that would also cause an increase in heart disease and the researchers also didn't factor in such things as a family history of heart disease.. While I'm not wholly against people voluntarily engaging in medical research, I do feel that all factors should be figured in and that a more representative sampling of people be used. I realize that it can be difficult to get volunteers or even paid subjects, but only studying a very small percentage of the U.S. population is basically worthless. 100 subjects is a mere drop in the bucket and you can't get an accurate, representative sampling that way. Another issue is the age of the study group. Take, for example, the reason withdrawal of the arthritis medication Celebrex. It was pulled because it was found to increase the chance of heart attack and stroke, but what a lot of people don't know is that the research subjects the scientists got this info from were all 70 years and older. A 70 year old's body is very different from someone who is 40 or even 50 years old. The scientists need to have a more diverse age group in their study. When the studies are done on a limited group of people, whether by number of subjects, gender, medical history or age...then that causes me concern as there isn't a true representative sample of the population being shown in the final results. What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
Well I hope they make certain the test soldiers keep well-hydrated then considering the climate they are in!What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
Thanks. BTW-where have you been keeping yourself? I haven't seen you at SC in awhile. What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
I'm glad to see you back. icurok and romkey have been pretty effective at keeping these idiots at bay and we haven't had any really crappy surveys in awhile. What are your opinions of participating in a medical research study?
