2261My last vehicle purchase was a small truck. I'd love to have gotten one with a diesel engine which gets 50% better mileage but they're not available in the US. If a diesel/electric hybrid would get even better mileage (not at all a given), then I'd consider that too but it has to be available to buy before I can make the decision.Would you consider buying a hybrid or electric vehicle?
2262Short term (from 5 years to 150 years depending on subject), pessimistic. Longer term, optimistic.Which are you: optimistic or pessimistic?
2263ANY disaster? Hardly. Are you prepared for any kind of disaster?
2264I prefer to answer with a corded phone (because I know where it is) but then talk with a cordless headset phone. When answering a regular phone, which of the following is more preferable to you?
2265So far, just some raisin bran and a brownie. What did you eat today?
2266Never heard of a maximum limit on the length of a school paper before. I always had difficulty making the minimum length. Glad to hear you got through it though; that's a lot of essays. What did you eat today?
2267Okay, that totally makes sense. The poor tutors.

Getting caught plagiarizing yourself would be most embarrassing. * smile * Now I look forward to your exams being over too, though not as much as you I'm sure.

2268I am opposed to involuntary servitude by any name. I think any nation which needs to press people into military service clearly does not have the support of the people and deserves to die.How do you feel about the US military's Stop-Loss policy?
2269Well, I found the manifestos (or at least press articles about the manifestos) for the Labour, Conservative, and Lib Dem parties. None of them would get my vote, that's for sure.

Okay, found some info on the others except for the Respect Party which is a branch of the Labour Party which I already decided against. None of them seem very good.

Is there no one in England that wants more freedom and all the benefits that come from freedom? The UK Independence Party talked about a slight decentralization of NHS. That seems like the right direction but there's a bit of stridency to their words that gives me pause (that's not a very good way of putting it). The Green Party also talked about decentralization but they talk in such generalities that it's hard to know what they really mean. The Green Party also suggested removing cannabis from the strictest controls. Timid or what? And, this being England, not one said anything about ending prohibition on guns.

In trying to get insight on a party's (or individual's) position on freedom (my main concern), I find the topics of guns and drugs to be illustrative. If they think people should be free on those issues, they're probably pro-freedom in general. I didn't find much hope for Britain I'm afraid.

Searching on my own I found the British Classical Liberal Party. Nothing directly on guns (it's still England after all) but at least they seem better than the rest of the parties listed here. I suspect they get almost as much support as the Libertarians do in the US.

Good luck with your election.
Who would (or will) you vote for in the British General Election on 5th May 2005?
2270I guess I didn't word that very well. What I read was that someone broke from the Labour Party to start the Respect Party. From that I figured that their policies were mostly the same except for one or two areas where he disagreed with Labour so much that he split over it. I meant branch more as a verb, like they had been the same in the past but had forked and gone slightly different ways. The same way that humans are a branch of primates.

That's about what I figured; the Classical Liberal Party has only a little more support than the Libertarians do in the US. People may say they want freedom for themselves but they want control over their neighbors more and that guides their vote. I suppose it makes sense though. Government is all about doing something and I want the candidate that promises not to do things, in fact promises to make government stop doing things it's been doing for years. No wonder they never get anywhere; it's almost an oxymoron.
