He will probably get caught, assuming he doesn't die or kill himself first. He could very easily ensure that he doesn't get caught, (for instance, I have a feeling he isn't even in Afghanistan anymore), just by making an attempt to lay low. But given his personality... I mean... he LOVES this attention, it makes him feel wanted and needed, why else would some rich old man be living out in the desert like a peasent, y'know? He just wants to be loved (by millions of Moslems throughout the world. And don't be fooled, the main-stream ones don't mind him either.)... just like anyone... so... he won't want to be without the attention he is currently getting, he'll do something to get the attention. He has emotional needs, just like anyone, and one of the ways that he is filling his emotional need for love is with all of this attention. And his emotional need for 'purpose' and for 'goals and desires', etc, he is filling all of those in a certain way, he can't just replace all these emotional necessities and entirely change his life... it won't happen. He'll fudge up. | Do you think Osama Bin Laden will be caught?
Well, for one, I'm not sure 5 million dollars is as much money as it sounds like. I wouldn't go out and start giving any of it away, thats for sure. Cost-of-living increases with standard of living, and that increases with social class which is highly correlated with net worth. And because of relative depravation principle, its basically impossible to live significantly below your means unless you are crazy or like being depressed. I'd just live off of it. You know? I mean... I'd build a stock portfolio that was diverse and designed for aggressive growth and every so often I'd sell some. I mean, I'd probably commission a house to be built... 5,000 sq. ft., a few (20) acres of property, the property would have to be nice... trees, etc. I'd build a corral, track. That'd cost around 1.5 million I figure. Perhaps as much as 2 or 2.5... NICE custom homes (well built, you know) can be pretty expensive per Sq. Foot. In any event after purchasing things for the interior and personal items and clothing, and car, and etc that establishes my identy of a member of the upper class, I'd be left with around $3,500,000. Thats $233,000 a year for 15 years, but I can't spend it ALL by then because.. what if I live longer? So I'd probably limit myself to about $150,000 a year, keeping up my large property, my high insurance rates (all around), keeping my vehicles in good condition, taking care of my animals, eating (and paying for) nice dinners 2 or 3 times a week and buying lavish gifts for relatives around the holidays(because if I don't they are going to hate me, after all, I'm rich...), supporting my college aged kids who EXPECT their rich daddy to pay for their tuition and board or else I am a 'prick'... etc... is going to leave me with about $5 a year, which I will probably light a cigar with at some cocktail party just to be a dick-head. | If you had 15 years to live and were very rich, what would you do with your $$ and your life?
Eh. Any group which hates Isreal, I have some sympathy for. I do not believe Isreal has a right to exist. I believe you do what you are able to do to achieve your objectives. Sure, it would be nice if certain groups could get their point across by non-violent means, but what if you can't? What if your group, your cause, does not have the resources to wage a millitary war? What if you do not have the support to have a conference? What if the government of the region in which you live is un-democratic and it leaves you unable to ovetake your government by election? What option is left? There are always options. And whats this BULLCRAP about civilian casualties being different than millitary casualties? A man is a man, a person a person. The difference between a soldier and a citizen is a draft letter. You think most soldiers in the Middle East are volunteer? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. Good one. There are always civilian casualties in war. It just so happens that the civilians are forced to dress up as soldiers before they die. In many cases, terrorist activities, as opposed to full blown wars, SPARE lives. How many would die in a REAL middle Eastern Millitary war? Not some week long one.. I mean, a REAL war. Millions. What would happen in Ireland if there were a GENUINE GROUND WAR? What would happen if instead of the terrorist attack on the WTC, there had been a nuclear attack by Pakistan? Don't put it past them, thats a very unstable government... :). Thats all. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
I'm not here to give everyone Middle-Eastern history 101. But I will :). I may make a few mistakes, but stick with me. A long long long long long time ago (we are talking before Ancient Greece), a group of people known as the 'Judeans/Isrealites (or, Hebrews, even)' lived in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas (henceforth, Palestine). Then... well... they were driven out by a different group of people (the Babylonians, but thats not really important). The Hebrews moved into Europe when they were driven out of Palestine, and spread their beliefs. The people they spread their beliefs to are known as 'Jews'. Its important to note that the Jews aren't necessarily descendants of the Hebrews, merely students of them. The Jews weren't liked in Europe, wherever they went they managed to anger people. No one knows exactly why, but some suspect that the Jewish belief system teaches Jewish people to act in ways that are not socially acceptable. There is also the belief among many people that Jewish people 'stick together' a little more than is proper or for that matter acceptable in the A.D. world. For instance, their is fear and distrust that a Jew in America, for instance, would side with an English Jew over an American Christian. Similar distrust exists of Catholics, who (despite that whole secretive, eerie, strange, scary, 'Vatican' thing) also don't seem to know why. On the other hand, the Jews whine that they 'just aren't treated fairly and are picked on', but seem unable to understand that 'If one person doesn't like you, it may be their problem, but if no one does... you need to start considering if it has something to do with you.' Now, in the mean time, many different groups take over Modern Day Palestine. Eventually Rome ends up with it, and we all know Rome went Christian all because one of its leaders had a hallucination in battle... fudging great, one mans excessive seratonin causing problems in his brain's 1-B receptors resulting in hallucinations, causes the history of the world to change. Anyways, then the Roman Empire is divided along with the Catholic Church and Palestine is now in the new 'Byzantine' empire. Then the Arabs came in and took over the Byzantines. This pissed off Catholic Europe which launched the 'Crusades' and for a (relatively) time they controlled Palestine... off and on, that is, I mean, it was an ongoing war for hundreds of years. Then the Turks took Palestine. Then something REALLY weird happened... after WW1 the Turkish Empire FELL, (HOLY CRAP!) and England, being the Imperialist nation that it to-this-day-is, somehow talked its way into being given Palestine. That was... ohh... I'm going to guess 1918, but I'm not sure. Anyways, England held on to the land until after ww2 and then it gave the land to the UN and the UN gave it to the Jews because it felt sorry for them after the holocaust and they were whining and frankly because Europe was tired of them having lived there for the last 2500 years or so and wanted them to leave. However, its important to note that the Islamic Palestinians STILL LIVED THERE (and they had lived there ever since the Turkish conquest hundreds of years before) and now THEY didn't have anywhere to go... so the UN gave them too there own nation, 'The Gaza Strip and the West Bank'. And here is where the Jews start playing dirty. They decided that they wanted the Gaza Strip and West Bank, they occupied them, many of Israel's citizens even emmigrated to those areas and they haven't left since. The Palestinians merely want to Israeli's to leave their part of the country, but the problem is that they want ALL the Isreali's to leave, not just the Isreali millitary. And this makes sense... why the hell did the Isreali's move there to begin with? Its not their country! They've got one (unfortunately) its called Israel. Now, the weird thing is, that the Palestinians, they don't have anywhere to live. The rest of the Middle East doesn't particularly want to give them land to build a nation on, and... well... Isreal has taken over what was left of their country... and their aren't particularly willing to give up their nation (I mean, they COULD, I suppose, theoretically, leave the West Bank and Gaza Strip but... thats it, you know, it would be like the English leaving Britain... no more England. Moral of the story-- The Jews hadn't been in Palestine for 2500 years, and they never should have been given a nation there (I think most people acknowledge that), now that they have, they don't want to leave.... understandably... but they need to leave the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Now, why does America support Israel? Its a tactical position for Middle Eastern operations, without it as an ally the Middle Eastern nations will actually gain some power, increase their standing in the world, and thereby make us "weaker". And that my friends, is the way that it is. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
Eh, thats what happened. I mean, I could be more precise but I was trying to describe the events of thousands of years in a few paragraphs. One time or two I followof Israeli aggreed the rule that 'A small mis-truth can save a lot of explanation'... but, the basics are there. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
Thats what happened. Someone else back me up here... | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
There are only 2 ways I can logically explain you're comment. 1) You are entirely naive as to middle eastern history but you disagree with my ultimate position so you have pretended like you know something about it and disagreed with my history. I'm leaning towards this. 2) What you know about the history has come from bad sources. You have to understand, the 'Six Day War' was CLEARLY an act of the Israelis acting out their belief in 'A God Given Right to Conquer These Lands' similar to the American expansion during the 19th century. Basically, the Jews moved into the region in the 40's, and started getting rowdy. They started kicking dirt around. They started launching attacks against English interests in the area, and they started attacking Islamic groups in the area. 700,000 Islamics were driven from the region when Israel was created. The excuse Israel used for its Rapid Hostile Massive Expansion (Also known as 'The Deplorable Act of Israeli Aggression' (Which Wasn't Out of Character) also known as 'the Six Day Criminal Act By Israel (Complete with 20,000 Murders)'), was that 'the other countries in the region wouldn't recognize its right to exist, and they were attacking Israeli citizens.'. You have to understand just how HOSTILE and AGGRESSIVE the Israeli expansion was. 20,000 people died in 6 days!!!!!!! I mean, that would be like us getting pissed off because CERTAIN PEOPLE in Colombia are importing drugs to the country, (just like CERTAIN PEOPLE, in Egypt...), and invading Colombia, killing 20,000 people in 6 days, taking over the country, and never giving it back. But the Israelis were ALSO attacking palestinians (at that time they were... Egyptians... Libyans... and... ohh... Jordinians? Is that the word?) in Israel AND in the surrounding nations, and they had been since before 1948. Part of the reason they were given the nation was to get them to calm the fudge down. The world was tired after ww2 and didn't want another war, and they figured 'Fudge it, lets just give them what they want and maybe they will stop their Hostility and Aggression in the region. Sure, it isn't fair to the rest of the Arab world, but fudge them, those towel-headed freaks don't deserve to live, because they aren't judeo-christian.'. BTW, that is an actual quote from the British Prime Minister at the time. (No, it isn't, I'm just kidding). AND most of the attacks on Jews by Palestinians were attacks on Jews who lived OUTSIDE of Israel. MSG, I dare you. Tell me what you think happened. :). No resources. No references. Just Let-it-flow. :) Its an essay question, like a test. Can you? You don't have a clue, do you? | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
Even the CIA recognizes the West Bank and Gaza Strip as occupied territory. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
(Giggles) Don't be a fool. I don't mind the Jews at all (And let me tell you what, if you know me at all, you know that if I did, I'd tell you about it. I think most people here can testify to that.) And I don't care if your partner is Jewish, thats neither here nor there. Don't be so touchy. Now, Its funny you mention my getting a broad liberal arts education, because, right now in front of me, is open, the book "Chinese Democracy and the Crisis of 1989.". I swear to god. I was JUST reading it. Isn't that funny? It has a number of... perspectives... on the current Chinese Government. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
Actually, I'm going to elaborate. It takes a big, strong, mature, person, to accept the possibility that someone who disagrees with them is equally (or in some cases more) educated. Our natural tendency is "If you disagree with me, you are stupid/bigot/whatever". Get over it, you will gain much. Sometimes, I accuse someone who disagrees with me of being naive, but that is only when they are saying something absurd (and undefended) or not following the basic rules of logic, or making a weak personal attack. Or making baseless claims. At times, I've disagreed with Ph.D.s, I'm currently disagreeing with the entire scientific community on a number of issues... eh... physiological psychology, you probably wouldn't understand. (No offense, its just that the odds of you having an interest in that field are... well... low.). But when they tell me I am wrong, and why, I don't claim that they are fools, merely that they know things I do not. Or perhaps it is I, who knows things they do not! On occasion, anyways. In any event, I don't need a broad liberal arts education. I know plenty about plenty. I believe that we could easily establish that there are things which you know which I don't know, things which I know that you don't. And therefore, you have some beliefs that I don't have, and I have some beliefs that you don't. Now, We argue, by... telling each other what we know. Eventually, I know all that you know, and you know all that I know, and properly, our beliefs should match at that point. Of course, sometimes I am willing to accept something as true, to 'know' it, and someone else is not yet willing to. Then comes the 'convincing each other' trap and its a waste of time, never before has one man convinced another of anything. But what happens is people don't want to tell me what they know. Only THAT they know. And that I am in need of education. You don't argue properly (A general address to the world), or even discuss for that matter. Its annoying. Oftentimes, someone tells me something they know that I didn't know, I say 'Oh, my, I hadn't considered that' And I re-evaluate my positon. Unfortunately, those occasions are not very memorable. They are short lived. I've done it 20 or 30 times on this board. What we remember, is the drawn out, long arguments, about what is, and is not, a rat. | Which of these terrorist groups do you sympathise with?
