31Oh, absolutely. I'd have to stay at least a week to catch up on all the foods I've missed. Or I could designate weeks. The first one would be bagels 3 times a day, the next week is smoked meat, then souvlaki...

But seriously, the plan is to come home in December, and bounce around between Montreal and Toronto/Guelph (where my boyfriend's family lives) until we start our road trip sometime in February. We'll come back to Montreal in the spring and figure out what's next. Hopefully grad school.

I've always believed that I would eventually end up in Montreal pretty much permanently. It's still one of the best cities I've been to in the world.
Which of these United States cities have you visited?
32The grandson of one of my grandmother's close friends killed himself last year. I hadn't seen him in years, but he was around the same age as me and we used to play together whenever I was visiting my grandmother. Also a close friend of my then-boyfriend's ex killed himself by overdosing on heroin. I had met him only once before, and briefly, but somehow ended up going to the funeral. It was incredibly sad, surreal and somewhat awkward to be in a funeral home with a bunch of drug addicts (for the most part) mourning the loss of a friend.Has anyone you have known committed suicide?
33I think fondue was trying to make a half-hearted comeback. I know a few fondue restaurants opened some years back in my hometown.

The first time I had fondue, it was at a friend's birthday party. Her family was rich and her mom was the Martha Stewart type. I have to say all of us kids had a blast dipping our fruit into a pot of melted chocolate. I guess it's okay to serve that at a child's birthday party if you pay for someone else to clean your house. * wink *
What would you rather eat, cheese fondue or chocolate fondue?
34I have a suggestion, so nobody feels left out. People should let you know should they: 1) not be able to afford to send a gift to someone, but would like to receive one, and 2) be willing and able to send an extra gift to one of the people who can't afford to send one. I think everyone here at SC is honest and decent enough that we won't have a bunch of people looking for freebies. After all, giving is at least as much fun as getting, right?Second Annual Survey Central Secret Santa gift exchange!
35Some pointers for the person who gets my name:

I love music. A mix tape or burned CD of tunes you like would be fantastic, if you feel like putting in the time. Anything but overly repetitive dance music. New, old, just about any genre, and don't worry about whether I might know/own a copy of a particular song or not. A mix tape is an independent, complete whole. Your work of art. I promise I will not judge, so go nuts.

I like books (just grab anything interesting from your bookcase, if you like), especially wry fiction. Think Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins type writing, although I've read all of their stuff. Non-fiction related to media studies, politics, philosophy or history is also good.

Kitsch can be cool.

I like to wear necklaces, but nothing over the top. Simple and/or a little funky is best.

My favorite colors are purple (surprise, surprise), green, blue, and black. Silver is nice, but I don't like gold.

Foods, recipes, etc. are always nice (thanks for the idea, Irene!)

Photographs, artwork, local crafts... all interesting.

Think cultural and local flavor.

I am especially fond of lizards and frogs. Cats are great, too, but I don't want them decorating anything I own.

I'll be thrilled with anything I get. I would be especially happy if there's something personal about it, i.e. it should tell me something about the sender or have some evidence it has passed through their hands.

36I see your point, so I'll take on the organizing of a "gift exchange" for those who can't send one.Second Annual Survey Central Secret Santa gift exchange!
