| 51 | This actually happened to me recently. My best friend (from the time we were 13) who lives 20 minutes away told me she and her husband planned to sell their house and move to the other side of the state, which would mean a drive of about four hours over a mountain pass. I was deeply disappointed about it, and told her I was sad about the idea of her living so far away, but I told her I certainly supported her decision if she felt that's what she wanted to do. The good news is that after a few months they decided against that plan and are fixing up the house where they live now, which means they plan to stay.  I always try to make an effort to keep in touch with friends no matter how far apart we are. I used to write lots of letters. These days it's mostly e-mail. I find that family becomes more and more important as I get older. I've gotten pretty close again with my immediate family in recent years, and now I find myself reaching out to aunts & uncles.
