11Not a bad idea. Of course if the US joined Canada, the first thing that would happen in a Canadian parliament with former-US congressmen outnumbering Canadian members about 8 to 1, would be renaming Canada to the United States of America, saying bye bye to the Queen, enacting the US constitution etc.. So whatever works :)

By the way, I'd agree with you on the gun control policy, but health care is way better here. I pay less than I would thru Canadian taxes, and if break my hip, I'll get treated the next day, not in 3 to 10 months. ;)
Should the District of Columbia be granted statehood?
12I'm certainly not rich, yet I do get it the next day. I suppose it varies from state to state. Here in Minnesota everyone is insured. Where are you from Brian?Should the District of Columbia be granted statehood?
13No I was not aware of that, must be fun for the employers huh?

Anyway, I have driven through Colorado, and that was Hell for me (I like my ground flat), but I have no experience with health care there. I'd still say that it's better in the US than Canada.

I have too many friends that have had to wait months and months for treatment they would have gotten immediately here. I even know some elderly who have been denied cancer treatment in Canada because of their age. Even though they've been paying taxes all their lives, they ended up having to spend their life savings getting treatment in the US that Canada's supposedly universal health care system should have taken care of with no cost.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like HMO's more than anyone else, I just don't think giving your money to the government is really all that better (probably worse).

14Sorry, it was just a difficult experience for me. I had never driven thru such curvy mountainous roads before, and because I had planned it so well it ended up being at midnight. Hell for someone who isn't use to it.Should the District of Columbia be granted statehood?
15Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, eh? ;)

Btw, if you meant the website as being 'my' proposal, it ain't, although I agree with the main idea..
Should the District of Columbia be granted statehood?
16Really not trying to 'give away the country'. I've never declared myself the Prime Minister of Canada, and I, by no means can give away the country. I really was just expressing some views and making a prediction.. Sorry if you find it offensive..Should the District of Columbia be granted statehood?
17Might I first clarify, I do live in the US now, but I am born Canadian citizen (who felt much the way you do now, before). Perhaps you have met Americans who think you're inferior, but I don't think most Americans are like that (at least from my experiences).

Maybe you're right, and Canadians and Americans are completely different. Once again, I can't say I've experienced this to be true based on 'my' experiences. It seems to me, its more like a psychological difference, being that there's a political line right there at the 49th. How do you think our value systems differ?

Joe Canada's rant? Yes, I've heard that, I found it quite humorous. It's quite funny you mention that too. I was reading an article about that on the CBC website today (yes I still like to keep myself updated as to what's happening up there). All about the main actor in that rant.
Here's the URL: I am Canadian, and I'm moving to the U.S.

Another humorous side note. 'The Rant', was designed by an American from NYC. Anyway, it's a beer commercial, that's full of Canadian stereotypes of American stereotypes, it's supposed to be funny, not a true reflection of reality... I mean really..

18How do you figure immigrants hurt the economy?

The US has such low unemployment now. Immigrants from poorer nations will do jobs most Americans won't, and immigrants with highly specialized skills or who come from . technologically advanced nations will only help companies/government in the advancement of society.
Should the U.S. grant amnesty for all illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States before 1986?
19I really don't think allowing illegal immigrants legal status simply because they've been here for a long time, is a good thing. It sends out a bad message. However, what I was responding to, was FreeMartian's comment that legal immigrants hurt the economy. If the US closed off it's borders, THAT would hurt the economy..Should the U.S. grant amnesty for all illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States before 1986?
20Exactly what North79 said.. just because we'd have a common language doesn't mean that we couldn't retain our own languages.

Ebonics was basically just a joke. Latin, well it was pretty much the universal language at one time, it was just another creative option.

If yah don't like it.. oh well :)
Which of the following languages do you think will become the universal language of the globe?
