41Kids around here use the same argument as you when speaking out against dress codes. They point out that clothes help individualize themselves from others, but you know what? Actually, these same kids wear whatever the trend or style is. Is that being unique to you? Most of the ones that argue they want to express themselves in their clothes and be unique are the ones that must have the clothes that conform to the dress code of Brittany Spears making all of them look the same thus being contradictory to the point of their argument. How do you feel about dress codes at school?
42I am not speaking of wearing a uniform, I am speaking of those who challenge certain basic standards of dress. I would say that if a girl wants to go to school dressing like Brittany Spears that using the excuse of individuality is lame. There has to be some standard of dress in schools. I am not an advocate of uniforms. I think that is extreme but the problem is kids are going way overboard with their dress and parents do not discourage it.How do you feel about dress codes at school?
43So what you are saying is that wierd kids shouldn't wear uniforms. I guess that would also hinder them in playing any kind of organized sport, huh? Dennis Rodman seemed not to mind wearing a basketball uniform. He somehow lived through the torture. How do you feel about dress codes at school?
44So do individualist children have to ever conform to any standard? I guess it would be kind of hard to "truly" discipline them too, huh? You don't want to suppress them. Also, what "principles" are you referring to about these "individualist" kids? The type of clothes one prefers I don't see as a principle.

45I'll ask you the same thing as Joalis since you both seem to be on the same wierd page.

46It seems that everyone has their own preferences and tastes as it comes to dress. Even though I am not an advocate of school uniforms, I don't see how it would psychologically hurt one kid more than another. It seems if a parent used that "individualist" argument it would be nothing more than just trying to let their child get their way.How do you feel about dress codes at school?
47I don't see the big deal in conforming to standards. Your entire life there will be standards so you mind as well let the child learn now.

I am religious but don't need to wear a cross to be that way nor do any of the people I associate with. I would think a better comparison for you is the Jewish hat, yarmulke, and your jumpsuit. I don't see a comparison in these since one is a religios belief and the other is just something you like to wear.

As far as you statement, "Some people are totally against conformity in appearance and other areas where it doesn't matter," I will respond that it must matter to someone if the problem ever arises that you are not allowed to wear a jumpsuit (or whatever.)

"Forcing them to dress exactly like everyone else goes against their beliefs." I really don't quite understand your meaning there unless you were referring to mandatory uniforms. Regardless, I have never heard of someone having a belief in jumpsuits or jeans or halter tops for that matter. I see that as taste, preference, etc. It is not a belief. Well maybe if you pray to at a night and think it is the answer to the universe or something.

48I was being sarcastic about not being able to discipline these so called "individualistic" kids. You know who makes them that way? The parents. Parents allowing the kids to do what they want makes the kid these walking sideshows. Clothes are clothes. You wear them to cover your body and to keep you warm. When not at work I wear shorts and t-shirts during the summer and jeans and sweatshirts during the winter. What does that make me? An aquarius? A conformist? Maybe that makes me a Type A personality? Maybe even a codependent. What a crock! How do you feel about dress codes at school?
