You know, I can see both sides of this legalizing marijuana argument, but if you legalize marijuana wouldn't you have to legalize all drugs? Where do you draw the line in the sand? Legalizing marijuana would not affect me because I won't smoke it either way, but I think it would get more kids and others to smoke it. If it was more readily available, more people would try it. I mean, alcohol is legal... people can buy it, take it home and store it in their cabinet or refrigerator, drink it... if marijuana was treated the same way it would be obtainable by more people and result in more people using it. I think it would be safe to say more kids drink than smoke pot. Why?... because it is a legal substance that is readily available. You see it every day in the grocery store, in restaurants, in TV ads, etc. Comparatively, marijuana is illegal. You have to go out of your way to secretly purchase it. The penalty of use is high and so is the cost. Legalizing would get rid of these barriers. The only upside of legalizing would be the government can make it a new revenue stream by taxing it. The upside of legalizing all drugs would that it would eliminate the drug dealer and maybe reduce crime, but you would have to legalize all drugs for crime to reduce. | Should marijuana be legal? |
