I apologize for the inaccuracy of the commercial links - I realized they were commercial (and therefore biased) but I didn't think the information would be blatantly incorrect. I've asked the site for a response and have received none. This comparison might explain where they were coming from, at least. It's from a health site I've since lost the URL for. Hopefully this is more accurate. Looking through Breast Cancer newsgroups, I found many messages from women being told to avoid aluminum. If I come across a doctor posting on the topic, I'll ask for more information. "Aluminum (Al): Aluminum is the most abundant metallic element on earth. It makes up 12% of the earth's crust and is found in every plant grown in the soil. A few examples: Beans contain 20 - 250 parts per million (ppm) of aluminum, peppers and peanuts contain 50 - 200 ppm, corn and wheat contain 20 - 300 ppm. In short: everything that has been grown in the soil (grains, fruits, nuts, vegetables...) contains aluminum. To be more precise, everything grown in the soil contains organically bound colloidal aluminum. Inorganic (metallic) aluminum on the other hand may indeed be harmful. Metallic aluminum has been implicated with being a cause for Alzheimer's Disease and breast cancer, even though the final verdicts are still out. Metallic aluminum can leach into food and drinks from aluminum cookware and aluminum cans (soda and beer). The EPA limit for aluminum in drinking water is 50 parts per billion (ppb). Cola drinks have been found to contain more than 5,000 ppb of metallic aluminum." | Do you wear deodorant, or do you wear anti-perspirant?
If I was defending myself, I would much rather have a gun instead of a knife. I imagine most attackers would be stronger than I am, but I am on "equal footing" (or perhaps better footing) with a gun. I know elderly people who have been very lucky to have a gun when someone broke into their house - I imagine if they only had a knife that they would easily have been overpowered and killed. A world without guns is a world where the strong will win. It's not like the use of violence by 'bad guys' will suddenly end. | In which of these two scenarios does the victim have the best chance of survival?
I've never found birth to be gross ... it's an amazing occurrence. To each his or her own, though. | Do websites ever shock you?
Sorry - 'he or she' seemed unwieldly, but I'll do that instead in the future. This came about from recently reading Rebecca and watching Titanic. I kept yelling (inwardly), "wake up you fool, this is your life, do what makes you happy and not what your parent is telling you to do!" I'm also intrigued by friends who, in a crisis, think "I've got to call my parents" - my first thought is "I have to do something". But I don't get along well with my parents. I wonder if I did, would I think first to contact them, or would the 'I have to resolve this' still win out? | To what degree do you ask for advice or discuss your activities with your parents?
When I was a teenager I dated a guy who was addicted to cocaine. He refused to talk to anyone about it. I wanted to talk with people about the addiction, how it affects a person and likely ways to break the habit. I was told by the group I approached that I could not join because I personally was not addicted, and that I would have to convince the guy to go. I felt disappointed, because I was actively trying to get information and would have been able to participate at some level. They could even have said "you can listen to us, but not contribute since you don't know what it's like to go through this" - I would have been OK with that. | How would you protest being denied membership in a club?

I hang on, trying to talk with the other person and give the relationship every chance of turning around. I express my willingness to break up if the other person wants to, but if not I keep plugging on at "fixing it". I figure if I liked this person enough to start dating exclusively, it's worth putting the effort into. I've dated a lot, and don't think I've ever 'bolted'. I wonder how this is affected by the parental relationship one grew up with - mine were divorced. | Do you tend to hold on too long to romantic relationships that aren't working out, or do you, conversely, tend not to give relationships enough of a chance, bolting at the first sign of something wrong?
Ah well, if people thought this was only so-so then maybe it's not worth asking separately how people would then go about protesting the refusal. | Reaction to being refused membership in a club
I can't choose an age, I know many 70 and 80 year olds that aren't "old" at all - travel and dance and all. I don't seem to think of people as "old", merely "older. Maybe I spend too much time with active older people, and not enough with inactive older people. | What age feels old to you?
