11It doesn't really bother me, but I do find myself correcting it in my head ... and occassionally out loud.Grammar
12I'd like to think I'm open-minded - I've undergone changes in a few viewpoints in the last year. Unfortunately, at my age, I feel like I encounter very few new ideas. I'm not sure if that's true or just a different form of close-mindedness...Do you see yourself as open-minded?
13I really didn't like the movie, but the scene where Baron Harkonin gets the puss sucked out of his sores will stay with me forever.Dune ...
14I find the thought completely disturbing ...Have you ever burned a book?
15Okay, I doubt many of you will sympathize with this but ...

I completely love the idea "Government should have no influence on religious beliefs."
While I abhor the idea "Religious beliefs should have no influence on government."
**gilly - I think lisashea stated it well. To elaborate - I think that government should not force religion on the people. I think that eliminates most of the objections that were posed. What bothers me is that people think I (and others) should build an artificial wall between my religious beliefs and my politics. If I completely disassociated myself from an organized religion, my thoughts on political matters would not change. Would that suddenly make it okay? We all try to affect those laws we think are good and knock down those laws we think are not good - you shouldn't have to remove yourself from that process just because your ideas of good and not good are founded in a spirituality that has an organized label.
***bill - I assume you weren't looking for any feedback on your comment since you made up your own dialog. Just so long as you don't think that would have been my response to your comment...

19A few more classes in philosophy would be nice. What I'd really like to see (but isn't really practical to implement as an education standard) is general philosophy questions coming up in the course of other studies - not necessarily as an influence on your grade, but just to get you to start thinking philosophically about the entire range of subjects taught in school.Philosophy
