can you elaborate? | Why do you think God exists?
The question is asked by an aethiest. I'm puzzled as to why other people beleive something that (to me) is so obviously a fable. | Why do you think God exists?
OK fair enough. Its entirely yor decision to keep that private and I respect it. I also doubt that anything at all will ever persuade me that god exists. I'm just curious as the *why* other people are so convinced that he(or she)(or they) does. | Why do you think God exists?
If people dont wish to give their reasons, thats fine with me. Many people *are* prepared to give reasons though - and the only way to find out is to ask. I'm not preaching here, or trying to convert anyone away from their beliefs. I'm just reading the replies to try and understand how other people think. | Why do you think God exists?
That sounds like a very close call, I'm glad you made it through! If its not prying too much, why does that make you beleive in God, rather than thinking that the doctors, nurses and modern medicine did a great job? | Why do you think God exists?
This reminds me very much of an election that I once took part in at university. Several of us entered, and one of my mates entered as 'independent loser' His aim was to get zero votes. His publicity material said "Don't vote for me", he never attended any of the hustings. In fact now i remember it, he did nothing at all. Me and another guy did everything in his campaign, All he did was provide one signature when signing up as a candidate. He got 4 votes. | Try your best to (not) contribute to this "experimental survey", which aims to be the survey with the least amount of votes, comments and replies.
Yes.. they consume and replicate. I dont see the reasons why they arent alive. | Do you believe that viruses are alive?
I have to reject your argument based on "Viruses *don't* reproduce their DNA - cells do." This seems to be just a technicality. The fact is that viral dna *is* reproduced. Sure it needs an outside agent to help it, but so what? Plants need soil to grow in. Humans need external foodstuff to grow. If I had to rely entirely on my own, I'd not get very far in the world at all. It might not be exactly the same way as we replicate our DNA, but thats what viruses do, and extremely successfully. | Do you believe that viruses are alive?
They 'consume' a portion of their victims. | Do you believe that viruses are alive?
| 40 | I suspect that your argument is going to go along the lines of "if a cell is alive, and I remove half of it, is it still alive? And then repeating this question, until there comes a point where you take something that is alive, and by dividing it in 2, you make 2 non-living things." So... you ask if the extracted bit of dna alive? Well it depends if it can it continue to function with the normal characteristics of life. If that bit of dna can be placed in some nutrients, divide, use energy, grow etc, then yes, it is still alive. If however it just sits there doing nothing, and has no hope of ever doing anything, then its not alive. You've killed it, and I hope you are ashamed of yourself.
