41Even if God just planted the seeds, and it took 700 million years for animals to evolve, the creation metaphor is still true. Every other culture has mythology for their creation story, often involving deities and humans, like Pandora's Box for instance. Bible literalists are like greeks taking Pandora's Box seriously instead of as a metaphor. Is Charles Darwin's book On The Origin of Species the most important publication of the last 150 years?
42If the Beagle had tragically sunk off the coast of the Galapagos Islands (or eaten like the Dodos) we might not have Dachsunds now.Is Charles Darwin's book On The Origin of Species the most important publication of the last 150 years?
43Rarely. I prefer 1-5 in decimal anyhow. One can assign an individual sense of meaning to each digit then and still hold it all in your head.

I do percentage evaluations a lot though.
Do you mark things out of ten?
44Really? I'm just gving it a 63 out of 267. Maybe an 84.Do you mark things out of ten?
45Well that's why they got all those things like cardiac paddles and complicated clamps and stuff around for; in case you're not sure what a 5 or 10 is supposed to feel like.

"Really, it feels worse full than the full voltage cardiac paddles? Well, how does it compare to the bone saw on your lower vertebrae? Oh, you're sure it feels better? Yes yes, they all say that, but how do you know? We have a 1-20 scale now too, in case you're interested."

46Oh it is much better. 'Arm' is finally set free. Wave bye to arm, I mean smile. See, a three isn't that bad. Your bike accident was really just a one.Do you mark things out of ten?
47I like to guage my certainty on matters in conversation, like I'm 92% certain. Certainty always comes up, and no matter how complex contigency matters get, it boils down to that single linear scale. I suppose time or money or even happiness are like that for other people. I'd assign a likelihood to that, but the definition itself is foggy.Do you mark things out of ten?
48Yeah, this is the sort of thing I converse about.Would you tell your friend?
49and how does that work, by making labor, career develepment, and toys more interesting and consuming than sex and interpersonal relations?

Parents who increase their revenue by having 10 more children than others to help support them are capitalist. It's not unlike how americans went to working wives between WW2 and the 70's, dropping wages and making it necessary today. Parents wait till they're 30 to have kids today because they don't think they can afford it earlier.

It's family values and culture, possibly from a world view taught by colleges and corporate culture and such, but not capitalism itself. Most of the world is already capitalist. You're talking about a level of capitalism so pervasive that it supecedes the socialism of extended families. Wealthy american industrialised capitalist families a century ago were large. The big change since then is perceiving children as more of a liability than an asset, and valuing comfortable living more than family. (Religion and birth control probably factor in heavily in historical comparisons though).
How do you think we should combat over-population?
50In theory, recycling every atomic particle and magnetic wave, trillions of people could live here for billions of years after the sun dies.

I would prefer a forested world though resulting from negative population growth.

It's a bit late for us though. We can only choose what future generations will live with.
