I then salvage any pieces that I want to keep--zip up my drive and give the thing to one of my nieces or nephews and pay another $1200 for the best system available for that price. This buying schedule works out to about $400-$600 per year which is pretty reasonable. I end up with a system that is not cutting edge but keeps up with the specs required of cutting edge software.
