| 53 | Here in London we have an annual series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall called the "proms" where 1,000 of the 5,000 places are for standing (or "promming"). They last a couple of months and I went to half a dozen this year and listened to many more on the radio. Wagner's Parsifal was wonderful and Shostakovich and Copland were featured composers which was great as I knew little of either. My favourite was Bernard Haitink conducting (at the last minute) Beethoven's 7th symphony which was revalatory. I couldn't not mention the penultimate concert of the Leningrad Symphony which was magnificent - and so good they were forced to give two encores one of which was an entire movement of a Prokofiew symphony! | What was the best concert you've ever attended? |
