I use vi as a text editor, so for that I like the keyboard, but a trackpad is perfect for a laptop, a stylus is perfect for photoshop, depending on the task either a mouse or a trackball is perfect for other things. Film scanners will get 2700dpi easily (making an image of roughly 3800x2500 pixels ) which doesn't match the grain of good film.
