the company they keep .. (and/or don't keep)What do you believe is the most accurate measure of a person's intelligence?
peace, love, abiding joy and compassion ... or some yummie saag tofu ... and if you twist my arm maybe a zen-babe or two ;)Let's have a Survey Central potluck supper. What food or drink will you bring?
to help foster a child's (or anyone's) desire and ability to skilfully understand their own values, be true to them, and revise as necessary given their own experience and the context of their life. perhaps this is integrity. providing an experience of abiding peace (even with the knowledge that the world is often a violent place) is also important, i believe - and leads to compassion. i'd also like to say that while knowledge can be transmitted by 'teaching', i think that 'values' are inculcated through 'example'.In your opinion, what are the three most important values parents should teach their children?
) yes. love. .. you put my verbosity to shame :)In your opinion, what are the three most important values parents should teach their children?
this will come as a surprise to no one ... sexual desire. ... and perhaps my periodic malaise - unless it can translate itself into some good artwork ;)You can now eliminate one emotion or mental state from your life.
i've thought out loud in public and made a living at it .. as a college professor. -- perhaps we sanction arenas for such discourse? perhaps the acceptance depends upon the strength and coherence of the expression and the strictures of the audience?Do you think it would be better if it was acceptable to talk to yourself (think out loud) in public?
i'd come back to this world to continue the work of compassionWhat will you choose for Heaven to be like?
i hide away and arrange to listen to nine inch nails and/or marilyn manson at the loudest possible volume (i prefer not to use headphones, but sometimes this is necessary for the comfort of others) while meditating. deeper depression requires lighting candles and listening to 'the wall'. more moderate depression can usually be handled with the sundays, charlatans uk, and smiths. When you're feeling low/down/depressed, what do you normally do?
this question occupied my mind for some time. i contemplated changing my first and last names to reflect parts of my personality which had developed to the point where i thought i might like to celebrate them by embodying these aspects in new names. (i also was feeling decreasing familial bonds). for reasons such as keeping my email address, allowing me to sign messages with the same initial, and simply affection for my first initial, i looked for names which also began with 'm'. i looked for an arrangement of letters/sounds i thought flowed smoothly and aesthetically, and mean something significant. because i was looking to reflect my eastern character, i looked at sanskrit and hindi names. finally i decided that names are on a very real level superficial and functional, sounds which allow others to pick us out of several persons and direct questions, commands, or solicit opinions. so i've kept my birth names and am saving the names i found for a day when i might name children. How would you choose a name?
i fell in love with cities the first time i lived in one (nyc), tho i have also loved the country since i was a child. the suburbs still irritate me, especially those communities with 'thickly settled' caution signs on the streets. greater boston, and cambridge, where i now reside, seem more like large towns than a cities (they are short a couple world-class museaums). In what kind of setting do you live?
