Well, the city..definitely pretty old. The neighborhood? I'm trying to remember when my friend Aaron discovered the roads in our neighborhood (not a terribly big discovery..they were pretty obvious) and then we started riding around by ourselves. Let's see..at nine I got my appendix out...and I remember being on the street over (not terribly far from my house in fact) with my bike. So perhaps it was around then...We used to ride bikes all the time..So yeah, I'm going to say 8 or so. Before that..you ride with training wheels anyway..Of course..our neighborhood is pretty safe...just moderately creepy. I think what the characters on Arthur do is ridiculous. They're 8..they don't need to be walking around town alone. | Given that it may vary from child to child, neighborhood to neighborhood, and who they are with, at what general age in years should children be allowed to go out into the community and play unsupervised by a guardian? |
