I, personally, use ICQ for personal, one on one, communications. I've have allowed myself to get into long drawn out discussions that I know are out there for public consumption. Then there are times better left for privacy and the other person is not reachable with an IM. Then, it just doesn't get said. An inter site private board would be ideal.
