Hey everyone,

I will be checking in with you here at SC only sporadically for the next little while since I'm in the process of wrapping up my life here in Asia and trying to set up a new one in my old home - Canada. Don't worry, my gift for the Secret Santa gift exchange won't fall by the wayside! Obviously I'm shipping a lot of things these days anyways.

And interestingly enough, when you fly directly from Korea to Vancouver, you land about 7 hours before you left due to the time difference. Have fun wrapping your heads around that until I'm safe and sound (and thoroughly disoriented) in Montreal.

V.

I wanted to thank everyone who volunteered to send an extra present or two to those who couldn't send one themselves, and therefore couldn't participate in the gift exchange. The response was far greater than I anticipated! (And no, it's not because I have a low opinion of you guys. I just know how hectic and expensive life can be to begin with.) However, nobody contacted me saying that they wanted to receive any of these extra gifts, so there's nobody to send to!

I urge anyone who would like to receive a gift but can't send one to contact me by Dec. 3 at braintingle at yahoo dot com. Your friends at SC obviously want to be sure you're not left out!

Thanks again for your generosity everyone!

My mom also puts out food for her cats and some other neighborhood cats so they can grab a bite to eat when they're outside prowling, and raccoons come and eat it. She also used to keep a front window open a crack so the cats could jump from the porch to the ledge under the window and come and go as they pleased. A clever raccoon discovered this a couple of months back and came in for a snack. My mother had to shoo him out of her bedroom! She keeps the window closed now, but sometimes when she calls for the cats to come in, a raccoon will try to come in as well. They seem to be somewhat more "tame" in that area. I woul dnever try to approach one, but they don't seem to be shy or aggressive around people or cats!

I apologize if this is old news to anyone, but my boss over here in Korea just brought this to my attention thinking I would appreciate it (he's so thoughtful):

I got an 87. Good to know they'll take me back when I come home next month. Otherwise I might have to go to the US!

I requested the absentee ballot for the elections, and of course it never arrived (none of the Americans I know here in Korea who requested one received theirs, either, oddly enough). So I went to the heavily-guarded US embassy in Seoul to fill out a write-in ballot, and was amused to see that right near the top it said "PRESIDENT/VISE PRESIDENT." I can't believe nobody spotted that.

How do you figure that? I'm sure a lot of work went into it. Making doilies isn't easy, you know!

It's good to have a back-up plan like that. For many years, mine has been to run off to New Zealand to raise sheep and farm wasabi. Yes, apparently New Zealand has the best climate outside of Asia for growing wasabi (in case you were wondering).

Congrats on the new decoration. I've had mine for 9 years now, and I have no plans to take it out anytime soon!
