Do any of you know how to pronounce Lanaghan. Is the 'Lan' like ban and can or like wan and con? Is the 'gh' a g sound or an h sound? I can't find a place to find out. |

Drinking and peeing a lot can be a sign of diabetes among other things. | RGirl

I had a cat that peed in the box but wouldn't poo in it. I was told to get another box. Some like to use different box for different duties. I read you should have one extra box than the number of cats you own. If you have one cat, two boxes. Two cats, three boxes, etc. |

I think it's beautiful but sad. I hope her agony eases with time but I doubt it will and I don't know if she will be able to let herself ever be happy again. |

Thanks. He's doing great today. He really likes his prescription food- $$$$$$$$ and his meter is pretty spiffy- even more $$$$$$$$$$$. These dogs are gonna put me in the poor house. I'm already looking at my usual expenses and ticking things off that I can do without so I can justify spending all this money on them. Things like DVDs, iTunes, books, subscriptions, records . But I wouldn't do it any other way. | RGirl

Loki is hanging in there. I am going to pick up his glucometer tomorrow at the vets so they instruct me on its use. It is a blood sugar level machine, in case you didn't know. It is specifically made for pets, only needs a tiny drop and whatnot. I suspect his blood sugar is still high in spite of his high dose of insulin. We'll see. There are several options for insulin. Right now he gets long lasting human insulin but they do have insulin made just for animals. I'd do that if we need to but using the human insulin is nice because I can just go up to the pharmacy down the street. My vet is over 30 minutes away so it would be annoying to have to drive out there every time I needed insulin. At best this will be a chronic condition we can treat and at worst it is too serious of a problem will overtake his body sooner than later. I'm hoping for the chronic treatable condition but it is still a daily waiting game. He is still doing really well overall, a little more cranky than he was before all of this but still ok. I'm hoping we will find what works and can settle into a routine.
I can really imagine how overwhelming this could be for the person with no nursing background like I have. At least it isn't all brand new things to learn. I'm still anxious but at least my response would be more automatic rather than panic if something went wrong. Also, I am finally getting the recognition from my SO about caring for our animals. I do it all really and I always felt like it wasn't recognized. We have 5 dogs and now 4 of them have chronic, but treatable, conditions. I know when there is something wrong and their likes and dislikes. I take care of the 5 cats and the inside birds we have too. I keep track of vet appts, rabies vaccines, and heartworm and flea/tick prevention for all the 4 legged ones. Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it. |

He really does seem to be feeling better. He showed interest in his toys, eating, wet nose, and he even howled with the sirens on the tv! |
