Well, I didn't log in for years, and here I am back.
Then again, maybe some people would prefer that I had been deleted.

Yes, but I'm on via modem. A picture takes longer to download than a thousand words. |

Actually, if you used the [Yes,No] menu, you could make it default to [Yes] for essay questions, and [No] for non-essay questions. That'd probably get things right most of the time.
OK. I think I'm done replying to myself for the moment. | Analog

I can see a potential problem in non-essay surveys where someone leaves a comment from the voting screen which isn't really their vote. (I think this is less likely in essay surveys.) Still, it might be better to make this optional in some way, perhaps with a little two option menu that said ``Should this comment be marked as your vote? [Yes,No]'' | Analog

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether a comment is someone's answer to the survey question, or a comment on the discussion taking place in the comments screen. This is especially so in essay-type surveys.
I think it would be good if a comment left from the survey voting screen (using the <STRONG>vote</STRONG> and not the <STRONG>abstain</STRONG> button) was marked ``<EM>user</EM> votes,'' in much the way that replies are marked ``<EM>user1</EM> replies to <EM>user2</EM>.'' This would make it easier to distinguish people's votes in an essay-type survey from other comments they might leave which aren't their vote. It'd also be handy in non-essay surveys where people duplicate their votes in their comments. (This happened a lot in the recent ``how old are you'' survey, for instance.)
One problem that would have to be handled would be how to mark old vote-comments when someone posts a second one (using ``change vote.'') Perhaps something like ``<EM>user</EM> votes (rescinded).'' |

Alternately, rather than putting a counter next to each comment, you could put a link next to each comment which lets you reply to that specific comment. The plus side of this is that users would not have to remember and match up (or even see) numbers in order to reply to a specific message. The minus side would be that the user would have to decide which comment they're replying to before editing the reply.
I like the idea of being able to reply to a specific comment - especially when replying to anonymous users' comments. If this was implemented, it might also be possible to offer a threaded display of comments, too. This would be good for reading the responses to surveys where people start several simultaneous discussion threads. |

The little ``check box'' graphic under the number of ``reasonable'' votes for each survey seems to get checked (or not) depending on the survey's rating, not on the number of ``reasonables'' it haas received. |

I have the most amazing timing sometimes. | Analog

Oh brother. Apparently the 5+/0- survey was just waiting for me to post that comment before becoming active. The 6 HF survey is still in qualification, though. Probably it will disappear once I post this comment. | Analog

At the moment there seem to be two surveys ``stuck'' in qualification. One has 5 reasonables, 0 needs works, and 24 hours in qual, and it hasn't become active. The other has 6 HF votes, but has not been deleted. |

I notice that a survey has been voted ``hopelessly flawed!'' How does that work? |
